"Blue Iris & White Siamese Cat"

“Blue Iris & White Siamese Cat”
Acrylic paint and watercolor pencil
5 ½” X 7½”
Arches 140lb Hot Press watercolor paper
March 2009
SOLD

Here’s another painting in my cats and flowers series. This one is a white Siamese cat and a blue Iris. The vibrant blue of this cat’s eyes seem to dominate the “theme” of this painting. I’m really enjoying doing these paintings of the relationships between cats and flowers, and I was having fun with all the directional lines in the cat’s fur, whiskers, the irises vanes and the straight lines of the leaves. There also seems to be a lot of similar shapes that compliment each other here.

"The Meeting" - Cat, Ladybug & Pansies

“The Meeting”
Persian cat, Ladybug, & Pansy Flowers
Watercolor and Acrylic paint
Arches 140lb watercolor paper
5½” X 7½”
March 2009
SOLD
There was a brief encounter today, which took place in among the pansies. I wonder what was said in this meeting. Only the cat, the ladybug and the pansies know for certain.

I purposely took longer with this painting because I wanted lots of detail and worked for the composition to be just right, plus there are eight “faces” in this one. Can you find them? If pansies really have faces, do they have ears? If so, maybe they DO KNOW what was said at the meeting but they didn’t tell me.

"Black Iris & Oriental Cat"

“Black Iris & Oriental Cat”
Watercolor and Acrylic paint
5¾” X 7¾”
Arches 140lb Hot Press watercolor paper
March 2009
SOLD
Lately I’ve been exploring the relationship between cats and flowers. This one is an Oriental cat and a black Iris. I like the way the composition came out on this one. There is something quite “exotic” about this relationship and the dark purple blue-violet color with the lime green seem to add to that exotic flavor.

"Pink Purple Iris & Cat"

“Pink-Purple Iris & Cat”
Watercolor and Acrylic paint
5¾” X 6¾”
Arches 140lb Hot Press watercolor paper
March 2009
SOLD

Exploring the relationships of cats and flowers has recently become my passion. Sometimes there is a relationship of similarities, and sometimes it’s a relationship of opposites. This oriental type gray, black and white cat uses both, with color and with shapes. I really had a great time with this one.

"White Iris & Persian Cat"

“White Iris & Siamese Cat”
Original 5½” X 7½” painting
Watercolor and acrylic paint
Arches 140lb Hot Press watercolor paper
March 2009
SOLD

This one is a little bigger than what I have been doing in the last two years. At first this seemed so large to me after doing so may ACEO sized paintings, but then I really started liking this size. With my aging eyes, I really liked doing this, because the tiny ACEOs were giving me eye strain. Also there seems to be more freedom with this larger size. The ACEOs have been fun to do, and I will continue to do them, but I want to start doing larger pieces. I really had a lot of fun with it.
