"Spring Chickens"

“Spring Chickens”
Original ACEO painting
2½” X 3½” – official aceo size
Watercolor, colored pencil & acrylic paint
Arches watercolor paper
March 2011
Sold - Thank you

Colorful spring Easter chickens in their new spring hats get ready for the Easter Parade.

This is another aceo about my fascination with multi-colored Easter chickens. I’m talking about the kind that you buy in the stores to put into your Easter basket arrangements.  The old fashioned kind had orange paper covered wire feet and fluffy feathers with little black eyes. I have fond memories of these as a kid. They were found in my room posed with their wire feet bend around lots things.
Of course since I AM old fashioned and “no spring chicken” I like these kind best and I’m still fascinated with them.

I used colored pencil and watercolor to work up the composition and then switched to acrylic paint to finish this little aceo painting. It was given a couple coats of acrylic varnish for protection and will be sent to you in a clear sleeve inside a clear ridged holder.

Easter is coming! I love those old fashioned Easter chickens with the orange wire feet, the cute little black eyes and the fluffy pastel bodies.  This chocolate colored Easter Bunny is balancing three of these Easter chickens on his head as he sits in a grass filled Easter basket with colored eggs to match his chickens.

I used graphite pencil and watercolor to work up the composition and then switched to acrylic paint to finish this little aceo painting. It was given a couple coats of acrylic varnish for protection and will be sent to you in a clear sleeve inside a clear ridged holder.

It is early spring and the daffodils are in bloom, the robins are in the yard looking for yummy things to eat. “Look out little ladybug, you had better hide inside that flower for a while.”

This is an “I’m so happy that spring is coming” painting done using my colored pencils in my sketch book.  I then cut it out and mounted the paper to a piece of Stonehenge paper for more strength. I went back in with acrylic paint for some accents and finished it with acrylic varnish.  I will be sending it to you in an 8”X10” black matt with a foam core backer.  It can be very easily taken out of this matt if you wish and put into another matt of your personal choice.

Colored pencil & acrylic watercolor washes
Artist’s sketch paper mounted to watercolor paper

With early spring my yard begins to be populated with tiny delicate purple flowers.  I gathered two varieties of them together and brought them inside to sketch. As I sketched them in my sketch book I began to draw a little mouse beside them who seemed to be studying them along with me.  He soon became part of my composition and I liked the results so much that I cut out my sketch and mounted it to a piece of watercolor paper to stiffen it, then I finished it with colored pencil and acrylic paint.

“Black Kitten & Daffodil” (Redone)
Original ACEO painting
2½” X 3½” – official aceo size
Colored pencil & acrylic paint
Strathmore illustration board
February 2011
Sold - thank you

After a cold winter this little black kitten is discovering the wonders of spring.

This is actually one that I had listed before and it didn’t sell. I did some more work on it and corrected some things that I didn’t like about the cat’s face. I’m a lot happier with it now and I hope that you are too.

This original aceo painting was done on Strathmore illustration board that I coated with a tinted ground then worked in colored pencil to achieve my composition using acrylic paint for the highlights and details. It has a few coats of acrylic varnish applied and the edges are painted black for a nice finished look. I will be sending it in a plastic sleeve inside a clear ridged aceo holder.
